Principal Function:
- The Associate Pastor will support the Senior Pastor in the everyday mission of the church, as well as develop a comprehensive youth and young adult program and create broader education opportunities for the church body.
- The Associate Pastor is first responsible to the Senior Pastor and then is responsible to the local church body through the church personnel committee for employment requirements and responsibilities.
Job Classification:
This position is an exempt (salaried) and full-time position.
Working Relationships:
The Associate Pastor coordinates with pertinent church pastors, staff, officers, and volunteers in order to support the Senior Pastor in his duties. Additionally, the Associate Pastor will coordinate with those pertinent to plan, schedule, and direct activities for youth, young adults, and the broader church body.

Description of Associate Pastor
The Associate Pastor is an ordained minister and is responsible to assist the Senior Pastor with ministerial and support needs as they arise. The Associate Pastor, like the Senior Pastor, is not responsible for doing all the work of ministry in the church, but is responsible for seeing it is done and done properly. The Associate Pastor will:
- Be the primary support person for the Senior Pastor.
- Be assigned a specific ministry target group to oversee, specifically youth and young adults.
- Recruit, teach, train, spiritually support, and effectively supervise volunteers for any programs developed for these groups.
- Steer members of the congregation, namely the youth and young adult ministries, to aptly utilize their talents in the sincere service of God.
- Serve as the primary person on stage for welcome, offering, communication, and closing comments on Sunday mornings.
- Serve as the “face” of the staff on Sundays by being available in the lobby and entry areas to greet attendees and be available for questions or prayer.
- In the absence of the Pastor, receive his ministerial phone calls, lead staff meetings, oversee and lead worship services, and other ministerial duties.
- Function as the back-up speaker to the Senior Pastor with an “emergency sermon” always at the ready.
- Responsible for the management of social media outlets and overall web presence.
- In the Senior Pastor’s absence, oversee all ministry counseling needs from the church membership and requests from the community.
- Pray with church members and guests who express difficulties in their lives.
- Oversee the Benevolent Ministry of the church.
- Teach and attend Bible study classes regularly.
- Teach Sunday School classes if needed.
- Lead youth and young adult praise & worship on Wednesday evenings and Growth Group(s) on Sunday evening.
- Visit members and their family who are in nursing care facilities, hospital, or homebound.
- Responsible for visitor follow-ups and contact.
- Participate in the monthly services conducted at Cabot Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
- Conduct weddings and funerals for church members if asked.
- Visit grieving church members.
- Represent the Senior Pastor at committee and ministry team meetings as requested.
- Meet regularly with the Pastor and ministerial staff for planning, evaluating, and coordinating the ministries of the church.
- Responsible for coordinating and planning VBS each summer with staff and volunteer leaders.
- Select and coordinate, with volunteers, summer camps for children and youth.
- Implement specific assignments by the Pastor related to general pastoral activities.
- Cooperate with all staff and volunteer leaders to promote the entire ministry plan of the church.
- Assist with curriculum selection if needed.
- Organize and lead the church’s regional, national, and international mission efforts including mission trips.
- Attend, participate in, and coordinate inter-church programs, especially fellowships and missions.
- Research, locate, and validate potential outreach programs and projects that the church wishes to engage in.
- Develop ongoing partnerships with community organizations, and assess community needs that our congregation can help meet.
- Develop service projects for the youth and young adults, both in the congregation and the wider community.
- Involve youth and young adults in setting up and putting away items needed for church activities (for example, Fall Festival, Christmas, 4th of July outreach, etc.).
- Continue to grow in personal calling and walk with the Lord through Bible study and prayer.
- Maintain personal priorities with home and family as the spiritual leader of his home.
- Develop and exercise Personal Evangelism within and outside the church.
- Give cheerfully and regularly to the church through tithes and offerings.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
- Support the Constitution of the Church and all policies which have been approved by vote of the church.
Requirements:
- A college degree, preferably from a Baptist College/University/Seminary.
- Three or more years of experience as an Associate or Youth Pastor.
- The ability to listen effectively and to communicate clearly, in oral and written form.
- Good speaking skills and the ability to speak confidently before groups.
- Quality leadership skills.
- Exceptional administrative skills.
- Adeptness with multi-media technology (computer, phone, and/or social media, etc.).
- Commitment to biblical Christian principles and teachings.
- Knowledge and ability to guide a seeker to become a baptized disciple of Jesus.
- Knowledge and ability to use the Bible to guide a new disciple to ongoing spiritual maturity.
- Sufficient good health to discharge duties properly.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit, sometimes for prolonged periods of time.
- Passing criminal, financial, and sexual misconduct background checks.
- Passing a drug test.
