“What are you waiting for?” asked The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) President Thomas A. Kinchen during his address to the graduates at the Fall 2013 commencement service held December 6. Forty-three graduates listened intently as Kinchen made it clear that their response to the question would make a difference for all eternity. Graduation commemorates the beginning of new areas of ministry, life changing commitments, transforming decisions, and continued education.

According to Kinchen, “The vast majority of the world is waiting in desperation, secluded silence, hoping things will get better. The world is asking the question, ‘Do I matter? Does life matter?' So let me ask you, graduate, what are you waiting for? The world is waiting to hear the message - He is born, He is risen, He is alive!”

With just a small cluster of clouds, the projected rain held off keeping the focus on the excitement and anticipation surrounding graduation. Black caps and gowns filled the Wellness Center as the graduating seniors marched down the aisle with family and friends watching anxiously. The BCF College Winds led by Professor Ron Branning played "Pomp and Circumstance" as guests stood in honor of the entering graduating class. The commencement service officially began with the invocation by New Testament Professor Shawn Buice followed by the hymn favorite, “How Great Thou Art,” led by Music and Worship Division Chair Bill Davis.

Kinchen welcomed guests, recognized graduates, and was joined on the platform by Professors Shawn Buice, Darreyl Duggar, Jay Erp, and Kaye Johnson as they signed the Articles of Faith pledging to uphold the Christian doctrines and standards of The Baptist College of Florida. The BCF College Singers led by Professor Bill Knowles provided the inspirational special music selection, "All Men Will Know," featuring BCF student Michael Arribas.

Following the special music and presidential address, Senior Vice President R.C. Hammack presented the graduating seniors to Kinchen as recommended by the registrar and approved by the faculty. Kinchen proceeded to confer degrees and instructed the graduates to turn their tassel symbolizing the completion of this chapter in their education. Among the new degree recipients were a husband and wife, couples engaged to be married and miraculous stories of how each graduate arrived at this point in their lives. Uniting the entire group was the commitment and determination to use the education and skills earned over the past years in service to the Lord.

Davis led the congregation in singing the college hymn, "Tell Me the Story of Jesus," and the new Teacher Education Professor Kaye Johnson pronounced the benediction. The 2013 December graduates exited in excitement as photographs and social media sites were quickly filled with the news of this special day.

The compelling question remains, “What are you waiting for?” The Baptist College of Florida can be your alma mater and launching platform for changing the world. For more information, contact 800-328-2660 ext. 460 or access the website at baptistcollege.edu.
