The most requested intramural sport among students at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) is undisputedly volleyball. On August 30, the Intramural Volleyball season began with an action-packed game between the team, “Dr. Jump Serve,” named after Academic Dean and Professor Robin Jumper, and “The Winiarski’s,” named after New Testament and Greek Professor Steven Winiarski. As you can see, students have a good rapport with professors on campus and greatly appreciate the time and investment they have in the students’ lives. Games are held in the BCF Wellness Center on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:00 p.m. and even those students not playing are encouraged to come to support their favorite team. The new Intramural Coordinator Christopher Nelson is excited to be a part of this season as the referee and game coordinator.
Teams were organized in the first few weeks of the semester and team captains include Justice Ballard for “Dr. Jump Serve,” Dawson Troutt for the “Flying Fazoli’s,” Kaleb Dillhyon for “The Winiarski’s,” and Emma Lightsey for “Jolly Ball.”
“Last night, after two successful sets, team ‘Dr. Jump Serve’ won the match,” stated Nelson. “The game was full of anticipation as you could tell both teams have been putting in the work practicing. The gym was full of excitement as a large crowd of students were there cheering on their peers and professors. There were many amazing serves and saves on both sides of the net. One of the biggest performers was Kimberly Button as she served fourteen times in a row and helped her team for the win.”
Intramural volleyball is just one of the many activities for BCF students to enhance their college experience and help build comradery among the team players and the crowd that filled the stands to cheer for them.
