On Friday, April 7, the Music and Worship Division of The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) hosted students from Chipley and Dothan High Schools, as well as Emmanuel Christian School for a day of musical instruction and team building. The students, selected from their choir directors for musical excellence, joined BCF College Singers for a fun day of training and preparing for the future.
Students arrived promptly at 8:30 a.m. and after a brief time of registration and introduction, intense rehearsals began under the direction of BCF Music and Worship Division Chair Bill Davis. Following several hours of instruction and practice, students were given time for fellowship and a meal together in the BCF dining facility, the Deese Center. The joint performance of everything students has learned was presented at 2:00 p.m. in the R. G. Lee Chapel.
Some of the challenging arrangements performed by the students in the choir, accompanied by BCF Professor Angela Glover, included: “Cantate Domino” (arr. Pruett), “African Processional” (Montoya), “Empty Now” (Martin), “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” (Lutkin), “The New 23rd” (Carmichael), and “We Shall Walk in Peace” (arr. Davenport).
The students easily demonstrated the reason they were selected to attend the Honor Choir Festival with an impressive final performance, leaving family and friends in awe. The BCF students that were able to participate enjoyed having the opportunity to provide mentorship for the high schoolers and demonstrate experience at the college-level. An impressive number of seniors from all three schools were given scholarships to The Baptist College of Florida.
