The seventh annual "Elevate” Music and Worship Arts Camp was held July 11-15, on The Baptist College of Florida's (BCF) Graceville campus. Faculty and staff of the BCF Music and Worship Division worked in conjunction with local worship leaders to make a “rainy” week one of the most enjoyable camps thus far. “Elevate” included students in the sixth through twelfth grades and this summer enthusiastic campers came from all around the state. Seventy-nine campers to be exact, doubling the number of past years. Students attended classes and breakout sessions to refine their talents and abilities including singing, playing instruments, art, and other creative expressions and disciplines like sign language and worship technology. During the weeklong event, campers participated in a variety of worship experiences through daily Bible study time with their group leaders and worship services held in the BCF Wellness Center.
This year's camp pastor was BCF Graduate Andy Hunter, Associate Pastor at Bethel Baptist Church in Dothan, Ala. BCF Graduate Thomas Brown, Associate Pastor at Gateway Church in Headland, Ala., served as the camp worship leader. Both pastors were a joy to be around as they shared from their experience of what Christ has done and continues to do for them. Hunter and Brown led campers in daily morning devotions on the dock overlooking Lake Albert, in addition to inspiring worship sessions in the evenings. Through their Bible study, youth-focused worship sessions, and daily devotions, camp participants had the chance to grow spiritually. The rest of the “Elevate” team leaders included BCF graduates, current students and faculty, and an incredible staff that made the camp fun and kept everyone safe.
The motivated campers took part in fun, high-energy games such as paint wars, gorilla chase, and “Ooga Booga.” When asked what this wacky named game was BCF Music and Worship Chair Bill Davis commented, “You have to come to camp to find out!” A skit night, an evening talent show, dinner over a bonfire, and an epic waterpark trip were some of the extracurricular activities for the campers. A new addition to camp this summer was a fully updated concession stand with “Elevate” memorabilia and an abundance of snacks.
On the last day of camp, a special worship service was held for parents and friends featuring the combined choir, presentations from all of the elite group classes, an enjoyable video of the week’s activities, and the awarding of six BCF Presidential Scholarships to the juniors and seniors that attended. After the final selection, campers could be heard talking about next year's camp reunion with an abundance of hugs and phone numbers being exchanged.
