BCF Teacher Education faculty, staff and students celebrate state licensure for Elementary Education Program.

On Thursday, January 28, faculty, staff, and students of The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville gathered to celebrate a milestone accomplishment for the Teacher Education program. After countless hours of paperwork preparation, including a 578 page folio submitted in May of 2015, BCF was granted Full State Approval of the Elementary Education program.

“I was absolutely delighted at the announcement of the state approval of our Elementary Education program,” stated BCF President Thomas A. Kinchen. “This is a vital part of BCF’s commitment to ‘Changing the World through the Unchanging Word.®’ I know of no greater area of impacting our culture than in having dynamic Christian teachers in the classroom. I know that we have a top quality program, faculty, and students. It is gratifying to see that others have affirmed this. We are excited about the future.”
The new state licensure from the State Department of Education was granted on October 19, 2015 and included BCF graduates from December 2014 to the present. Teacher Education Division Chair Susan Wegmann revealed that, “State approval for our Elementary Education program wets our appetite for gaining full approval for the other Teacher Education degrees we offer - English Secondary Education, History/Social Studies Secondary Education, Music Education Choral and Music Education Instrumental. We are already in the process of creating the folios for the other degrees. We hope to have them approved within 2-4 years.”

Grandiose cheers erupted at the certification celebration as students, staff, and faculty gathered to acknowledge the hard work of the faculty and staff of the Teacher Education Division, led by Wegmann. State approval indicates that students will graduate from BCF with a Professional Teacher’s Certificate, with no other requirements by the state of Florida.
