Last Spring, the English class performed “As You Like It” a play written by William Shakespeare.

On May 12 at 6:00 p.m. in The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) Wellness Center, the English class will present the play, “The Importance of Being Earnest.” The play was written by the poet, playwright, and author Oscar Wilde and was first performed on February 14, 1895. This comedic play satirizes the social class structures in nineteenth-century England.

BCF Secondary Education English Major Sydney Bodden is directing the production and is extremely excited for the opportunity. “My hope is that everyone, both the cast members and the audience, will enjoy the evening,” stated Bodden. BCF Assistant Professor of English Geoffrey Reiter has been overseeing the development of the play for some months, adding his thoughts and suggestions to the cast as they prepare for the big night. “I appreciate all of the hard work that Sydney Bodden has put into the play,” Reiter said excitedly. “I knew right away that I could entrust this endeavor to her after all of her hard work in last year’s production of ‘As You Like It,’ a play written by William Shakespeare. She deserves this opportunity.” Reiter went on to state that he is hoping to make plays an annual event during the Spring semester and that he is eager to see how well the students will perform.

“The Importance of Being Earnest” will be held in the BCF Wellness Center located in the center of campus at 6:00 p.m. (CST) and is open to the public. Tickets are not required to attend.
