Mission volunteers working on the campus, Shelba Knight, Lynn Gay, Marlene Bailey and Jim Bailey, served as judges for the Lakeside Echo competition.

For the past 12 years, the BUDD Builders have travelled to The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville to provide a helping hand on the BCF campus. The BUDDs (Building Under Divine Direction) are a group of retirees that serve as missionaries volunteering wherever the Lord leads them. Currently serving on the BCF campus, they have used their experience and skills in repairing furniture, sanding and staining decks, sewing skirting for platforms, answering phones, compiling promotional materials for mailings, decorating for campus events, and helping bake cookies for “Cookie Day” with BCF First Lady Ruth Ann Kinchen.

“God led us here,” stated Jim Bailey who is camping in Heritage Village and working on campus with his wife Marlene. “We wouldn’t be here unless God told us to. This is God’s work and we want to do it for as long as we’re able to,” stated Bailey. The Baileys, originally from Iowa, have been married for almost fifty-three years and have four sons and eight grandchildren. They have volunteered many hours on the campus bringing such joy and offering assistance wherever needed.

Missouri residents, Lynn Gay and Shelba Knight, are two of the first BUDDs that arrived on the BCF campus. They have spent hours working and helping out on campus, making lifelong friends along the way. “They always bring a smile and are always willing to help,” stated BCF graduate Ashley Lain who works in the Marketing Office. “They genuinely care about the students and the school.”

The BUDD Builders and other mission volunteer teams have spent immeasurable amounts of time working on the campus, saving the college money and labor. According to Lain, “The BUDDS serve as a reminder of how one can be joyful and have fun while working.” These servant volunteers are a blessing to every person they encounter and have been a huge source of help and encouragement to the BCF campus.
