On September 24-26, students in The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) combined College Choir and Jazz Band participated in the Worship Expo Conference at North Jacksonville Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla. The Annual Worship Expo is a Cooperative Program Ministry of the Florida Baptist State Convention designed to teach, inspire, encourage and equip worship pastors, music leaders, and team members to become stronger worshippers of Christ.

The Worship Expo offered a variety of practical and informational classes to help conference attendees to enhance their skills and learn from some of the best music and worship leaders in the country. The conference started with a captivating concert by the Vertical Church Band from Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago, followed by performances by the Jason Lovins Band, the Florida Worship Choir and Orchestra, and several worship teams and combined choir from BCF. The guest speakers for the conference included Vance Pitman of Hope Church in Las Vegas, Bob Pitman from Muscle Shoals, Ala., and Herb Reavis of North Jacksonville Baptist Church.

In addition to the inspirational concerts and large general sessions, there were many “breakout tracks” or small group learning sessions, designed to provide specialized information and material. There were sessions tailored to every type of conference-goer with class instruction for senior pastors, worship pastors, ministry wives, technical teams, children’s choir leaders, orchestra, praise teams and ensembles. According to several BCF students, the sessions were very educational and reminded them of all of the preparation and prayer that goes into the worship ministry.

In the expo exhibit hall, there were multiple vendors and ministry organizations providing information on worship and music related topics. BCF students not only gathered at the college booth, provided by representatives from the campus, but also enjoyed a time of spontaneous praise and worship as they sang around a piano located in the exhibit area.

BCF students were able to perform and participate in the sessions, and several were selected to join in an ensemble, lead worship and play in the conference praise band. BCF alumni and students selected for the Worship Expo vocal team were Abby Matthewson, Trot Williams, and Abbie Richards. The conference praise band featured Gary Medlock on the piano and Donovan Higgins on the electric guitar. Stephen Wolgamott and John Paul Linton also took part in the expo by leading worship and singing solos during the Florida Worship Choir concert. As BCF students shared their hearts and voices at the Worship Expo, they also gained an even greater appreciation and understanding of the worship team ministry.
