Excitement and anticipation was in the air as both new and returning students arrived on campus at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville, August 13-14. Watching the campus come back to life after the summer break is one of the highlights of New Student Orientation.

New students began orientation in the historic R.G. Lee Chapel with an inspirational time of worship and encouraging message from BCF Academic Dean Robin Jumper. Glazed-over eyes quickly emerged as the group of students relocated to the Mills Center and were introduced to the policies and procedures of attending BCF, along with information about campus life. Students were able to have lunch with their faculty advisors as well as sign up for classes, obtain their student IDs and register their vehicle.

As with any new beginning, there was a great deal of apprehension for many first-time freshmen and students transferring from other colleges. One of the new students, Evan Sammons, was very excited to see how the semester unfolds, “The unknown is really the excitement, but as it becomes the known; faith, encouragement, passion, and love really seem to come to the forefront of this school.”

In addition to the formal classes during orientation, there were several activities to welcome new and returning students that included a special time of fellowship with representatives from area churches followed by a student-led concert “Illuminate” featuring BCF Senior Nigil Todd. Additional events sponsored by the Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) included a version of the “Amazing Race,” to help new students become familiar with the campus, and a Saturday pool party called “Poolapalooza.” BCM Director Jonah Powers wanted to make sure to start the semester off in grand fashion, “I’m very excited to introduce the new students to student life on our campus.”

New BCF students are already making friends and connections as carpools to local eateries ensued and plans for the weekend have been corroborated. Thus begins another chapter in the lives of men and women, young and more seasoned, gathered on the BCF campus to study and prepare for areas of ministry, leadership and service.
