BCF welcomes home the BUDD Builders: Shelba Knight, Lynn Gay, Doris Collier, Chris Hutto, Don Collier, Darlene Hutto, Nancy Janes and John Janes

The Missouri based BUDD Builders, a non-profit group created in 1997, has traveled the country from Arizona to Miami building and remodeling churches. After reading about The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) Shepherds' Cottages for retired ministers, the group decided to vary from their usual church-building work to help honor those who had given a lifetime of Christian service.

For the past 9 years, this amazing group of retired teachers, civil servants, ministers, construction workers, bankers, electricians, and homemakers has been coming to BCF in their motor homes and campers selflessly volunteering their skills to help anywhere needed.

The BUDD ladies are generally busy sewing quilts to be donated to various community ministries such as the children's home or nursing facility, while the men are hard at work on special projects to improve the BCF campus. Whether working in the dorms, married housing, inside classrooms, or in Heritage Village, the entire group has been busy painting, trimming, laying tile, and contributing to the general maintenance of the campus.

So far this year, they have repaired the roof and built shelves in the Gardner Center for Music and Worship and laid tile and baseboards in the newly remodeled Wellness Center. Some of the ladies have been working in the Marketing Office by organizing storage rooms and designing a new backdrop where faculty, staff, and student ID cards are managed.

The group spends their evenings enjoying each other's company by playing games or singing praise and worship songs led by Lynn Gay. They are especially fond of their Thursday evening devotions with BCF Vice President R.C. Hammack. "We are always glad to come back to Graceville because people call us family," stated Shelba Knight who has been coming to BCF since the very beginning. "When BCF President, Dr. Kinchen, sees us, he always says, 'Oh, you've finally come home!'" added Gay.
