BCF GOVERNMENT CLASS HOSTS VOTER REGISTRATION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 11, 2010
As the semester draws to an end at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville, many students are busy writing papers, applying for internships, and planning summer mission trips. However, on April 28, the U.S. Government and Politics class took time from studying and making summer plans to host a voter registration drive on the college campus.
The class, under the leadership of BCF Adjunct Professor Beth Minchin and Washington County Supervisor of Elections, Carol Griffin, registered fifteen students who had never voted previously and assisted eleven students in acquiring absentee ballots. There were over thirty-five people that participated in a drawing for a voter t-shirt, and many more visited the exhibit booth to pick up important information on voting and current issues.
The class worked hard in planning and promoting the event, and delegated responsibilities among the classmates. The students used the information they had learned in class to answer questions regarding the voting process, political parties, current political issues, and upcoming elections. They were able to provide pertinent information concerning elected officials currently serving in office and the positions of political parties on specific issues and concerns. As the event came to an end, the class members were pleased at the response and the number of people that received valuable information for voting in the next election.
