Dr. John Sullivan, Florida Baptist Convention Executive Director-Treasurer, preaches during Chapel at The Baptist College of Florida.

"You and I need to get excited about the God we serve -- the God that saved us from our sins," challenged Florida Baptist Convention Executive Director-Treasurer John Sullivan during his sermon March 2 at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville.

Basing his message, entitled "Being Uncommon for Christ," around Acts 4:31-33, Sullivan illustrated three things that make believers uncommon.

He said that believers should take a close look at the disciples' uncommon prayer life in Acts 4:31, which says, "After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly." According to Sullivan, the body of Christ needs to realize that prayer is a priority in a Christian's life and should wear a label that reads, "Shake well before using."

Sullivan also mentioned the disciples' example of uncommon fellowship and their uncommon relationship with the Holy Spirit. "Their fellowship was so uncommon that they had all things in common," stated Sullivan. "Fellowship will never come unless we have a dynamic prayer life." The result of the disciples' earth shaking prayers was a filling of the Holy Spirit which empowered them to preach with great boldness. To fulfill the Great Commission, given in Matthew 28:18-20, Sullivan instructed listeners to share God's word with boldness and enthusiasm.

In his opening remarks, the executive director-treasurer encouraged everyone to become excited about God. He then concluded his message by declaring that Christians must seek to be uncommon if they wish to see the world changed for Christ. He further added that believers must seek God daily in prayer and ask Him to shake them and use them.
