WIMPY CHRISTIANS BEWARE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 27, 2010
Rev. Kenric Conway, senior pastor of the Family of God Baptist Church in Panama City, FL, preaching in the R.G. Lee Chapel at The Baptist College of Florida.
Rev. Kenric Conway, senior pastor of the Family of God Baptist Church in Panama City, Fla., opened an exciting week of chapel services at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) Monday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. with a challenging message of strength and courage. BCF President Thomas A. Kinchen introduced Conway as a man whom "God has used to touch hurting people with the Good News of the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
Referencing Joshua 1:1-9, Conway told how the children of Israel were grieving over the loss of Moses, and now had to learn, once again, how to trust God. Four times in this Scripture, God tells His people to be strong and courageous. Conway, having served in the Air National Guard for over 20 years, understands what it means to encounter battles. He encouraged students to stand up, be firm in promises of God, and "have courage in the battle, because this battle you face belongs to the Lord."
"God don't want no wimpy Christians," asserted Conway. It takes courage, determination, discipline and strength to change and go forward. Joshua's direction was changed; he had to trust God for guidance over the Jordan River. After bringing His people across the Jordan, God directed Joshua to a place outside of Jericho, where, through an angel, Joshua was instructed to remove his sandals.
In quite the comedic moment, Conway relayed how he understood what God meant in telling Joshua to remove his shoes when he stood on holy ground in Joshua 5:13. "I was walking with my buddies through the park barefoot when I was younger and suddenly, stepped in a spot that was warm, wet, and came up between my toes. I didn't even have to look down to know what it was." As he drew near his friends, they scurried away from the smell, but after awhile, it was not as noticeable.
"How many times do we step in sin and after a while we get use to the smell? That's what God is saying, 'You have stepped in it!' Clean up your act, repent, get rid of sin, and go to God." Conway urged the faculty, staff, students and guests in attendance not to carry the residue of where they have been on to where God would now direct them, just as God did not want the children of Israel to carry their past sins with them as they were led to the Promised Land.
Conway has an impressive history of ministry and military service as a Chaplain, Lieutenant Colonel, in the United States Air National Guard, serving as the Wing Chaplain and the Senior Air Guard Chaplain for the state of Tennessee. He is responsible for all religious programs for the Memphis unit servicing 1,405 military, dependents, and civilians. He is a veteran of Operations Just Cause, Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Iraq Freedom, Noble Eagle, and numerous other humanitarian missions.
