BIBLE DRILL WINNERS RECEIVE BCF SCHOLARSHIPS

The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville recently presented a $1000 scholarship to each of the Florida Baptist State Convention Bible Drill winners in Orlando, Fla. BCF Professor Chris Fouche was at the event to present the scholarships and talk about the many degree opportunities available at BCF.

There were three categories in the competition, and all were won by young men this year. Danny Sullivan, a ninth grader from St. Eustis, won the Youth Bible Drill. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Dora. Fellow church member Matthew Guy won the High School Bible Drill. Matthew is a tenth grader and also lives in St. Eustis.

In addition to the fast paced excitement involved in the Bible Drills, the speakers rose to the occasion during the Speakers Tournament. Participants had to choose a topic from a list of 20 possibilities and deliver a four to six minute speech. Each year, the skills and talents demonstrated by the young people speaking are extraordinary. High school senior Matthew Harper of Valrico, Fla., won the Speakers Tournament this year. He is a member of the South Brandon Worship Center.

The Florida Baptist State Convention Bible Drills and Speakers Tournament competitions are held each year and promote the knowledge and usage of God's word. Participants must complete both the church and associational drills before continuing on to the state level. They have to memorize 25 scripture passages as well as know all of the books of the Bible.
