BCF WOMEN'S ENSEMBLE SINGS FOR ACDA CONVENTION
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 14, 2008
The Baptist College of Florida's Women's Ensemble performed for the American Choral Directors Association and Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Haven.
The Baptist College of Florida's Women's Ensemble performed for the Florida chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) on November 8, 2008 at Seminole Community College in Sanford, FL.
The American Choral Directors Association is the professional organization of choral conductors throughout the United States. Its purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. Membership includes public and private school choral music teachers, college and university music teachers, and church musicians from all denominations, and directors of community choruses.
The BCF Women's Ensemble was selected to perform at the convention based on a recorded audition containing music from the last two years' repertoire. One of five choirs singing at the convention, the Women's Ensemble was the only college choir chosen to perform. Christy Graham, senior music education major shared, "I thought it was very beneficial for our group to sing before an audience of other music majors and peers in the music profession." According to Allison Henderson, "The experience at the ACDA convention was so neat for me as a music education major, getting to see firsthand what my future would be like."
While in the Orlando area, the ladies sang at Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Haven where BCF soprano Angela Revell's father, Steve Revell, is Minister of Music and Worship. Additionally, an impromptu performance opportunity arose as the ladies sang the National Anthem in the hotel lobby for the New York Rugby Club who was in Orlando for the national rugby championships. Several of the ensemble singers expressed their satisfaction in being able to participate because the trip away from school allowed them to bond and experience a unity that exceeds the confines of the classroom.
Under the direction of BCF Professor Buford Cox and accompanied by Mrs. Linda Vaughn, the Women's Ensemble is an auditioned ensemble for BCF female students. For more information or to schedule a concert, contact Cox at 850-263-3261, ext. 432 or becox@baptistcollege.edu.
