BCM BAKE-OFF BRINGS IN MONEY FOR COMMUNITY OUTREACH
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 17, 2008
The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville gym was filled September 9 with sweet treats and students looking for a good dessert to take back to the dorm for a late night snack. Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM) Director, Brianne Eure, organized a bake-off and auction to raise money for several community outreach opportunities that will be offered during the semester. "I really wanted the students to have a chance to use their baking talents while helping BCM raise money towards our future Monthly Community Outreach Projects. It was a great opportunity for the student body to come together and have a little fun, use their hidden baking talents, and exercise their taste buds to sample all the delicious goodies. Why not have fun while making funds?" said Eure.
After students sampled each of the desserts, they had the opportunity to vote on the one they thought tasted the best. Faculty and staff judges were also invited to grade the goodies on taste, originality, and presentation. Once everyone had a chance to vote, identical desserts were auctioned off to the highest bidder.
First place went to Megan Powell who made a chocolate caramel cheesecake that brought in $65 for BCM's community outreach projects. Her prize included a $25 gift certificate to Piggly Wiggly and "The Best Baker Trophy." Other winners included second place Kevin Stone with his Pineapple Coconut Cake, and third place winner Brittany Huston who baked Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Whip Sandwiches.
BCM Director Brianne Eure holds up the money received from the BCM bake-off which will be used for community outreach projects.
The big winner of the evening was BCM and the Graceville community. The students raised a total of $258.68 to go towards outreach projects including a free car wash and yard work done throughout the Graceville neighborhoods. According to Eure the first community outreach project is scheduled for September 20.
