SENIOR HONORS DAY AT BCF
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 5, 2008
Jim Henry, Pastor Emeritus of the First Baptist Church, Orlando, Florida, brings the Senior Honors Day message at The Baptist College of Florida.
Students and their families filled the R.G. Lee Chapel at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville the morning of December 3, anxiously awaiting senior honors recognitions and preaching from Jim Henry, Pastor Emeritus of First Baptist Church, Orlando, FL.
To begin the Senior Honors Chapel service, BCF President Thomas A. Kinchen approached the pulpit and opened the service in prayer, followed by the senior class officers, Megan Powell, Heather Carter, and Krys Peyton. The officers made positive comments about their time at BCF, and presented this year's senior gift to Kinchen. Recognizing the partnership BCF has with some of the work in South America, the senior class purchased books for ministry students studying in Cururupu, Brazil.
The BCF Male Chorale performed "Make Me an Instrument of Thy Peace," after which Senior Vice President R. C. Hammack and Dr. Kinchen presented honor awards to seniors for their grade point average achievements and the Excellence in Preaching award.
After recognizing the seniors graduating with honors, Dr. Henry delivered the chapel message from the third chapter of Joshua and God's amazing provisions. Recounting from the scripture that "the children of Israel crossed over on dry ground," he pointed out that it was God that made the ground dry. According to Henry "God's providence is His protection over His people." He also warned BCF graduates to beware of three common sins ministers fall into, "...pride, materialism, and lust." Henry concluded with a prayer of thanksgiving and reminded students, "Don't try to place yourself anywhere; God knows where you are and will move you when He's ready."
