THE BAPTIST COLLEGE OF FLORIDA ANNOUNCES INNOVATIVE GRADUATION PLAN

April 22, 2020

Press Release Image

The uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic have caused The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) and many other colleges and universities to cancel their traditional graduation services. According to BCF President Thomas A. Kinchen, "While we will not meet for graduation in our usual setting, we will have a graduation ceremony to honor these folks who have worked so long and hard. We will celebrate their accomplishments." The Baptist College of Florida will hold its Spring 2020 Graduation on May 15, 2020, but it will be conducted in a very nontraditional manner.

The administration at the College has planned a ceremony with all of the pomp and circumstance usually associated with such events. Kinchen noted, "We will have all of the elements of our normal proceedings except for the fact that the graduates and their friends and families will not be in attendance." The setting for the ceremony will be the R.G. Lee Chapel on the campus in Graceville, Florida. The President, Academic Dean, Chair of the Division of Music and Worship and the Registrar will participate. After the playing of the processional, the President of the College will lead in prayer and welcome all of those who are participating through various means of telecommunication. From that point, all elements of a normal graduation will be observed. During regular graduation ceremonies, the name of the graduate will be read and the President will present them with their diploma as they walk across the platform. In the Spring 2020 Graduation, the name of each graduate will be read and their portrait along with their degree and hometown will be displayed on the screen. After all of the diplomas have been presented, the President will confer the degrees which have been earned. The ceremony will conclude with the singing of the College hymn, a benediction and the playing of the recessional.

President Kinchen stated, "I know that we cannot give our graduates all of the excitement which they had anticipated; however, we are going to give them a top-quality graduation ceremony that they can enjoy along with family and friends. We hope that they will gather with loved ones in safe settings around the country to celebrate their achievements. Understandably, we have given up much because of COVID-19; but I am committed to making May 15, 2020, a day which graduates of The Baptist College of Florida and their friends and families will remember long into the future."

NOW MORE THAN EVER

April 10, 2020

When we established our trademark of "Changing the World through the Unchanging Word", I was convinced that this was the message that the world needed and that The Baptist College of Florida was the College to train the leaders for the task. In our current world situation, I am convinced NOW MORE THAN EVER that my earlier convictions were true.

Some have asked about our plans for the present and future in these challenging times. Here is the answer: WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS, AND, NOW MORE THAN EVER, WE ARE EDUCATING AND TRAINING THE NEXT GREATEST GENERATION OF CHRISTIAN LEADERS. Our methods of delivery may look different, but the truths of a Bible-based, Christ-centered, Christian institution of higher education remain the same. Classes are being offered through online delivery. Summer classes will begin in May. The Fall 2020 semester will begin in August. Nothing has changed except the delivery. As soon as it is safe to do so, we will reopen the Graceville campus for our residential students. That will be a great day.

NOW MORE THAN EVER, pray for The Baptist College of Florida; send students to The Baptist College of Florida, support The Baptist College of Florida, and know that The Baptist College of Florida stands ready for the task that lies ahead NOW MORE THAN EVER.

God Bless You,

Thomas A. Kinchen
President
The Baptist College Of Florida

TOGETHER IS BETTER

April 1, 2020

BCF Family,

We are completing the first week of our amended schedule for classes and general operations. Generally, things are moving very smoothly. However, this new system brings with it the challenge of becoming isolated and feeling unattached. I have always told our distance education students that the geographic location does not determine their identity as a member of the BCF family. I want to remind each of us of that same fact. We might not see each other in chapel or prayer meetings or the coffee shop or in class, but we are still that same family in the process of "Changing the World through the Unchanging Word." Please don't lose touch with your classmates or faculty and staff members. Please remember that you are not alone during this time, and we are not alone as a family.

TOGETHER IS BETTER! We will come out the other side of this pandemic. When we do, we will celebrate a homecoming. Until then, please pray for each other; and stay in touch with each other. I pray for you daily, and I ask that you please pray for me. We are still very much in operation, and God is blessing our efforts. Please let us know if we can be of help to you.

God Bless You,

Thomas A. Kinchen
President
The Baptist College Of Florida
